The participants of DEM-CHILD have been selected to provide the necessary complementary expertise and resources required to address the key objectives as outlined in the work programme. The partners were selected because:

i) they have excellent track records and are at the forefront of research in neurodegenerative disorders, specifically neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses, clinical translation and therapeutic development

ii) they possess complementary expertise, which provides synergy and fosters interdisciplinary approaches.

There is a unique association of competences available to provide detailed insight into the molecular aspects of the neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses and generate effective strategies for the development of new therapeutic approaches. The expertise of the different partners is diverse, ranging from expertise in NCL diagnostics and patient care, development of databases, research focussing on molecular biochemistry and molecular biology of NCLs, genetic techniques, animal and disease models and delivery of gene transfer therapy.
